Project Summary

Fluid Services was contracted by Wingecarribee Shire Council to construct a new truck watermain due to the rapid growth of the local area. These works incorporated the installation of 2km of 400mm PE water main. This project was constructed under live traffic conditions with road crossing being undertaken at night so as not to disrupt traffic flow.

Project Details

80% of this watermain project was constructed using NDD boring techniques. This particular technique was chosen to minimise the impact on the local residents by reducing the disturbances to the existing landscaping and the need of heavy machinery.

The connection to the existing 375mm AC main was constructed at night in both locations to minimise disruptions to residents. There were additional challenges that needed to be accounted for due to the existing main being AC, we controlled for this using air monitors and supplementary hygiene measures.

Key challenges we overcame during this Sydney water infrastructure project include:

  • Live traffic conditions
  • Night works
  • Working around live services
  • Tight time restraints
